difference between endorsed and lib folders?

java-programmer, difference between endorsed and lib folders? hi..

can somone please explain to me what is the difference between the
endorsed and lib folders in common folder in tomcat? i tried reading
the documentation but i couldn't figure it out.

In short, there are some package names from which classes are only loaded
if the package files are located in the endorsed/ directory.

(for this latter, there is a chapter named "XML Parsers and JDK 1.4"
close to the end of the document; note though, this is for Tomcat 4.1;
the "endorsed" mechanism is slightly different for post-5.0 versions of
Tomcat).
