- Creating ANT task which invokes target with dynamic propertiesI want to create an Ant task which loops through subdirectories and
then calls an Ant target ?this is easy enough through the
project.executeTarget method. But I want to pass the subdirectory
name as a property to the "called" target. This I do through the
project.setProperty method. Yet the target only has the original
value of the property and not the modified value. I am assuming that
this is because once a target and its tasks are loaded, the properties
are then fixed ?immutable.
So my strategy is to "refresh" the target before my task executes the
target. I was thinking to create a new target, do a shallow copy of
info, copy to the project and then execute the new target. Thoughts?
Other ideas?

- Which scripting language for renaming directories/files etcI have a directory sructure with many many subdirectoies many of which
contain various files. These directories/sub directories/ files may
contain a variable ie MYNAME that I want to substitute for a value ie
DAVID.
For Example I might want to turn the following...
c:\blah\blahMYNAMEblah\blahMYNAME\MYNAME.txt
c:\blah\blahMYNAMEblah\blahMYNAME\aaaMYNAME.txt
c:\blah\blahMYNAMEblah\MYNAME\MYNAME.dat
...into...
c:\blah\blahDAVIDblah\blahDAVID\DAVID.txt
c:\blah\blahDAVIDblah\blahDAVID\aaaMDAVID.txt
c:\blah\blahDAVIDblah\DAVID\DAVID.dat
...I was using ANT, but it seems to lack the ability (or I lack the
knowledge) to rename whole directory structures in this way without me
naming each and every one in the script, and since the actual directory
structure is much bigger and subject to change I dont really want to do
this!
Additionally I need to replace the content within a file. ie if
MYNAME.dat had this content...
"Hello, my name is MYNAME"
...then I want to replace it with...
"Hello, my name is DAVID"
...so my question is, what scripting language would be most suitable
for this type of problem?

- SWT & Java Web StartDoes anyone know if there are any problems using SWT with Java Web Start
or if Eclipse's SWT has anything comparable? (I'm want the features of
a heavyweight client but the easy deployment of a lightweight client)

- .Net winforms not that greatFrustrated with java desktop deployment issues , I decided to give .net
a try. I must
say that I don't find the winforms very elegant. at first glance it
seems snappy and look and feel on windows seems right without really
any effort. but beyond that It is very difficult to extend and somehow
it seems like programming in VB.It does not have the coherence of swing
or swt. I guess i am back from that detour. I going to give swt/GCJ a
try this time. I had tried it before and was having a hard time getting
executables with swt. and all of this to get around forcing the user to
download the jre for desktop apps....

- Tomcat and Connection pool size difficultiesI am experiencing something similar. I manage a website that is load
balanced across two servers. They are both running Tomcat 5 and they
both connect to the same database. On both servers we have maxActive
set to 10 and maxIdle set to 2 in the Tomcat ResourceParams. For the
most part, Tomcat DBCP plays by the rules and keeps the number of
connections to our database below 10, but today for reasons unknown,
both servers started using around 50 connections. Our database
quickly ran out of connections and our website produced errors.
I would have blown this off as a glitch, but both Tomcat servers
exhibited this behavior independently of each other, which means that
something triggered this behavior in a reproducable way. Anyone else
having this problem? Anyone find a solution?

- ImageUpdate and threadsHi !!!
I have a technical question about the loading of images. I have used for
long time the SwingWorker class for loading images (as the SUn
examples), however, in some books I have found that it is possible to
use the ImageUpdate methods for asynchronous loading.
Which one is better? The graphical thread made by SwingWorker or the
Image class methods?

- Another weird Tomcat problemI'm getting the following exception when I call "HttpSession session =
request.getSession(true)":
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/coyote/tomcat4/CoyoteRequest$PrivilegedGetSession
Again, I think it has something to do with the security manager; it is
a problem that just cropped up when I uploaded new class files to the
Tomcat server. A server restasrt didn't cure the problem.
Any ideas?

- Property Editor Hi all,
I am doing a library with some beans (Bean A and B for example). B has a
"aProperty" that references an object of type A. I would like to do a
property editor thar pemits, doing an object of type B to get in the
aProperty a list of A existing objects. For example, y put in my form 2
objects a1 y a2 of type A. if I create a b1 object of type B y would like to
show a1 and a2 in the posibles values.
I can do a static list using the getTags function of my property class,
but don't know how to access to a1 and a2 variables.
Any idea ?

- Simple Date Format - milliseconds with more precisionI'm using a UDB database, where the timestamp of a Date field returns
me dates with milliseconds up to 6 decimals:
2005-02-25 11:50:11.579411
I'm looking for two possible ways to deal with time stamp.
1. I've tried creating a Simple Date Format object with this time
stamp, but I don't know how to save the milliseconds with all 6 digits.
I can store up to 3 ("SSS"), but no more than that
Tried:
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd
HH:mm:ss.SSSSSS");
but that causes havoc.
2. Write a query that'll truncate the time stamp and lop off the final
3 digits. This query would need to be basic enough to work in MSSQL,
Oracle, and UDB without any modifications.
Any ideas?

- a great dealIT'S SIMPLE AND IT'S LEGAL!!!!!!! I found this on a bulletin board
and decided to try it a little while back; I was browsing through
news groups just as you are right now and came across an article
similar to this saying that you could make thousands of dollars
within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00!! So, I thought
yeah right. This must be a scam, but like most of us, I as curious,
so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send one dollar to each
of the six names and addresses stated in the article. You then delete
the first address and change the numbers. (2 becomes 1, 3 becomes 2,
etc.) Place your own name and address on the bottom of the list at
number 6 and post the article to at least 200 newsgroups. (There are

people and thinking it over I decided to try it. What do I have to

Dear All:
I have used MySQL as prototype on an application that I am developing.
The project has been
approved and I am now moving to Oracle for the production run. I have a
section
that deals with user password. My front end is in JSP/Servlet using
Apache tomcat and talking
to Oracle 8i using JDBC driver from Oracle (but I am using the Oracle 9i
driver).
The user password, I am using MD5 hashes and storing the string copy of
that hashes onto the database (as varchar).
MySQL was ok. However, when I moved the application to talk to Oracle,
I am always getting a different string back
from the database than what I am saving into it. However, I am
always getting back, from ORacle, the same
set of characters. So it was consistently different but consistently in
the same format. So I think there
are some character conversion that is happening. Some of the
characters are non-printable characters so
they look like rubbish. But you can still compare with your bare eyes
as the strings always contain the
same set of characters.
I think I am missing something as to how Oracle handle non-printable
character strings.
Any help much appreciated!!

Try a binary datatype for that column. RAW should work.

Perhaps you should convert the binary hash to Hex string
and then save it to the database as varchar.
This way, it should have no problem with any database systems.
(this is how I do, but don't know about other people)

You'll get this in IIS if you request a page that should be parsed by the PHP CGI that does not exist. IIS trys to load the script into the CGI but gets no results since there was no page to load. I think it's an IIS bug.... i.e. you go to www.domain.com/page1.php
but there is no page1.php file. So you'd expect to get a 404 error. but IIS gives you the CGI error instead. Kinda sucks, I just use Apache now anyway, so I never spent the time to figure out why.

I am working on Windows 2000 Professional. Due to some reasons, I had to
re-install it. There is one particular ASP application named Track. The
problem is I am able to visit only some of the pages in this application
(using hyperlinks) but am not able to visit the rest of the pages by
clicking hyperlinks (a user has to login first as 'admin' to get into the
site). For e.g. there is a page named Maint.asp which has many hyperlinks.
When I click a link in this page, I am not able to go forward; neither a
script timeout error (set to 90 seconds) gets generated. The page remains
static at Maint.asp though the status bar in IE shows that it is proceeding
ahead. This problem is happening only with the links in Maint.asp but not
with the links in any other page in this application. What could be the
problem? Please note that before re-installing Win2K Pro on my system, I
didn't face any such problems.

icon in the left-upper corner with a red cross in it.
I know it finds the files, because if I change the filepath in the apsx
file, I get a message telling me the file cannot be found.
But why are my pictures not normaly visible?
If I go to them via an URL, I can see them in my explorer.
Because there is a list created, before the pictures are shown, I can see
that all my picture - filenames are put in that list, so the program does
find them.
it just isn't showing them.
Please advise?

version of the images? Make sure IE is set to get a new page every time.
I worked at a place where the system cached pages so aggressively that it
was almost impossible to tell if a problem had been fixed.
When you right-click on the missing image to check the properties, does it
give a clue as to where the server "thinks" the image is located?

Yes, it gives the full path of where the images are located.
If I change this path a little, knowing it would never find the images, it
doesn't find them and I get an error.
I have one pulldown listbox and a datagrid on my page.
The images are in a subfolder of the folder "Fotos" and the subfoldernames
are shown in the listbox.
Then the user can select one and the datagrid becomes visible with the
images from that folder.
I works fine on my own PC when running it in VS.NET or when I go to the page
as a user and not as developer.
What could this be?

You can't use a physical path like that because the browser will look on the
local machine for the image. You have to use a relative path.
That's where your problem lies. You can't use the file system path that way.

where I want to continue the application, I have the following :
In design-mode, everything is shown as it should be.
When I run it, i don't see my textboxes anymore and some labels that i
marked as visible = false, are beind displayed.

reason the method does not like value.. if i call this method like ->

I could not reproduce this bug on 5.x, I received one report from
someone who did. I wasn't aware of the problem until I started
receiving bug reports from people running 4.7 and 4.8. If you attempt
to build mod_jk2 on 4.x, you should be able to repeat this bug 100% of
the time.

I found a one-line fix that seems to eliminate this problem for me.
Thanks go to the apache folks, who rolled this into one of the later
mod_jk versions. I'll update the port to the latest version in the
near future. Until then, please commit this fix.

- Generating classes for tables of a data baseHi,
I've got an already existing data base (Postgres) which consists of a
couple of tables and connections. There exist also some stored
procedures. Now, how can I get java-classes generated of this
information? Which tool can do this?
I would like to see a class for each table and methods to call stored
procedures or to locate records by their key.

- Synchronized output stream sends data out of order, Possible?Hi All,
I have a strange problem... I have > 1000 threads wanting to send data
through synchronized DataOutputStream wrapped around a sockets
OutputStream. Replies sent across the internet are received perfectly
in the sent order but across the router the stream is somehow
corrupted.
Is there something I need to set to stop this problem?

trying to implement some kerberos authentification, and all works fine if
authenticating local user, but when i try to authenticate
remote user with servlet, through Internet Explorer i keep getting the NTLM
token not the SPNEGO.
I have done following things:
1. put the requesting site in IE to local-network
2. in the IE extended security option enable Integrated Windows
Authentication
then you should see a client response something like YIll....... which is
true.

To configure Intranet Authentication:

4. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog box.

you are running Internet Explorer 6.0.

2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Scroll down to the Security section.

I do have JCIFS NTLM setup for entering the site, but afterwards i need to
do authorisation with Kerberos to authenticate with EIM to work with jt400
on as400.
So when i do

Searched the web couldn't find anything apart from the above given steps.

- Interrupt blocked database queryHello all,
I know this has been discussed often, but I still can not find a good
solution. I want to write an application where in one thread a database
query is run against an oracle db. This query could run into a deadlock
so I have to monitor this in another thread and react accordingly.
I understand that the use of Thread.stop() is strongly discouraged and
not working either. What is the best solution to this? Could I close the
socket and see what is left from the database connection? Where do I get
the socket then? Any other ideas?

- JSF tld newbie QuestionHello all,
I was looking at the JSF implementation source and some sample JSPs
from sun. I was wondering how/where the tld files are referenced/found.
For example the tld file html_basic.tld is jarred in the jsf-impl.jar.
In a jsf page it is imported with <%@ taglib prefix="h"
uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" %>. Now there does not seem to be
any reference to the uri mapping in the web.xml or faces-config.xml or
anywhere else to the above uri.
So how does the application know that uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
references html_basic.tld?
