What is the best IDE for Java development:
1)eclipse 3.1
2)sun 1
3)jbuilder
4)gui's are for wusses use vi and a command line ant


What is a good book to learn java 1.4?

What is a good book to learn swing?

This is purely opinion. Personally, I use Eclipse.

If you go to http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ , you can read
tutorials for free, and if you like them, you can buy the books they are
published in.

Use netbeans. u can get it bundled with java software, and its really
easy to use. As for a book, use head first java. It is hands down the
best java teaching book out there.

I use eclipse 3.0.2, I gave 3.1 a try but some plugins I use still
doesn磘 work with 3.1
